Kid's Announcements 2022-11-10

This Sunday is Serve the City! This week or weekend, try to set aside some time to serve as a family. Invite your kids into the decision by asking them if they have any ideas, or if they prefer one of your suggestions over the other.

Remember that how you talk about the project with your kids and your heart posture is just as important as the project itself. Talk about serving in a positive way and tone; talk about how this can show God's love to those around us. Don't imply that you're doing the project out of obligation or guilt.

Here are some ideas of how to serve the city with your kids. Choose one that's most appropriate for your children and family, or use it as inspiration to do your own thing! Have your child(ren) participate in your Gospel Community's service project.

  • Take some gloves and a garbage bag with you on a walk around your neighborhood or local park and pick up any trash you see.
  • Have your child select some snacks to purchase and take with you to the park, soccer practice, etc. Have your child(ren) ask others if they would like the snack and hand them out.
  • Write thank you notes together, then give them to people like your mailman, Amazon delivery guy, trash collector, or another person who is coming by your house regularly.
  • If your child has long hair, they might want to chop it off and donate it to Locks of Love, who will make a wig out of it for someone who has lost their hair. There are some stipulations around that, so make sure to check out their website on how to do that: https://locksoflove.org/get-involved/
